Jess

I do not possess any desires for Xmas this year, except from spending a few days with my family.
I have been in and out of hospital this year, and consequently staying right here with my family is the greatest Xmas gift I could ever get.

The children will be ecstatic with their Christmas gift this time. We are buying them a puppy each! My husband and I have discussed it and we have come to agree that they are sufficiently old (Jack is 10 and Jemima is 7). They’ve both loved dogs for as far back as I can remember. My parents have consistently had dogs, and our kids special treat was (and still is) to go to Granny and Granddad’s to play with the dogs. My dad has been really consistent in showing them that having dogs requires that you behave responsibly.
So they know not to spoil the dogs with treats, and that they’ve got to exercise them often, and clean up behind them.
I can’t wait to witness their expressions as they see the Christmas doggies.
In all honesty it’s a Xmas present for myself as well. I grew up with pets and feel like something is absent from my existence if I do not have a dog.

I’ve gone that extra mile for Andy’s Christmas this time. I have been through a rather difficult time this year and he’s given his full support to me at every stage. He was obliged to postpone his lads weekend away because I was rushed in to accident and emergency.
He handled everything: kept the business running, doing my duties additional to his own, did everything for the kids and still managed to come and visit me each day that I remained in hospital as well, and all without a single complaint. Therefore I have chipped in with his pals to book a week’s fishing holiday on the Swedish coast for him. It’s a good bit more than I ordinarily spend at Xmas, however he deserves a vacation.

I have bought my mum and dad a year’s subscription to a tourism mag for Xmas. My mum has been retired for a couple of years and my father retires in January, so after that they are hoping to have as many holidays as their resources would allow.
All their travel-related books are at least twenty years old however, thus I reckoned that they may need a few more current thoughts on places to head for or how to get there.

As a result I have got together with his pals and arranged a week’s fishing holiday on the Swedish coast for his Xmas. It’s more than I ordinarily fork out at Christmas, however he has earned every penny.

A number of vacation providers like to claim that their holidays are environmentally friendly when they are not. This tactic is what we call a greenwash, and it is one of the reasons that a lot of genuinely environmental tourism firms want to see more documentation of ecotourism holidays. If there were additional regulation of ecotourism holidays, it would be much trickier for greenwashed businesses to describe their organisations as ecotourism businesses. Currently you can find subaquatic resorts and hovercraft trips referred to as ecotourism holidays, despite the fact that they clearly aren’t. We need to protect authentic ecotourism providers, that provide pastimes such as flora surveying, backpacking and canoeing.

For some countries such as El Salvador and Panama, ecotourism forms a significant component of the GDP of the nation. Other nations, including Sweden and Gambia, have established ecotourism certification programs to try to define exactly what constitutes an ecotourism holiday. For instance, any ecotourism holiday must be allied with energy efficiency, recycling and conservation of water.
Countries need to think not so much about the immediate monetary benefits they may make from traditional forms of mainstream tourism and offset this next to the medium to long term advantages which ecotourism offers.

What may be classified as an ecotourism holiday may depend on the natural environment of the country in question. For example, a golf holiday will be a considerably more environmentally suitable sort of vacation in Scotland than it is in Spain.
Scotland has lots of rain and will consequently water a golf course without having a negative impact on local water levels. Golf courses in Spain, however, are an ecological concern as they need sizable amounts of water which the native climate isn’t able to offer. Ecotourism holidays have to be aware of the native environment and what it’s going to be able to supply.

Since the 1980s ecotourism holidays have been an increasing sector in the tourism scene, with the amount of holidaymakers worldwide choosing to have an ecotourism holiday rising by about 10 to fifteen percent every year.
Ecotourism endeavours to minimize the impact that tourists have on the native environment, and tries to raise everyone’s consciousness about our environment. It therefore endeavours to be sensitive to the local culture, and create funds for local conservation and income for local folk. Some people claim that no form of tourist will truly be ecological, but ecotourism is unquestionably better than the sorts of mass tourism which have established world-wide.

A couple of years ago I went on a terrific adventure holiday. A mate of mine organized it and we have quite similar interests, therefore I realized beforehand that it was going to be a good call. It turned out to be the best trip I have ever experienced.
We were trained how to build a shelter from whatever you are able to find in the forest, what plants you can consume, whereabouts you may locate liquid, and how to catch and cook animals. Plus we got to try paragliding, canoeing and gorge walking. By the close of the holiday I did not want to go home.

I am a pretty active bloke, so my definition of a fantastic vacation is something which involves lots of activity.
I’ve always liked sport. I play football once weekly, baseball once weekly and many mornings I’ll go for a jog as well. Some folk’s definition of a great vacation is lying on a beach, but the times I’ve gone on a sea-side holiday I merely became really bored.
I didn’t think it pleasant whatsoever, just tedious. I inevitably ended up organising a beach-volleyball competition or simply running for hours, otherwise when it came to bed-time I had far too much get-up-and-go and I couldn’t get any shut-eye.
I do not know how folk can squander a fortnight simply lying around the beach. That seems like a total misuse of time as far as I was concerned.

This year I’m planning to go on vacation with my fiancee.
It will be the first time we’ve been on holiday together and I’m not certain which way it is going to go. We don’t really look for the same sort of thing in holidays. My job’s at a desk so I have enough of sitting about doing very little in the office. I want to be active on vacation. The missus chefs however, which is a physically demanding job. She works lengthy days and is standing ten to twelve hrs each day, so when she heads off on holiday she just desires to unwind. Her idea of an ideal break is a spa holiday, but I cannot imagine spending an entire holiday just lying about in the sauna or getting massages. So we’ve compromised and gone for a resort which offers all the spa stuff but offers adventure activities as well.
